Restrict loading of “Services” console file.

This setting can disable loading of the console file “Services” from Administrative Tools section.

Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows 2000, Windows Vista

Description:

The “Services” can be used to manage services on local or remote computers. It can be accessed from Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools. But, with this setting you can restrict loading of this console file from Administrative Tools section.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. If any of the subkeys “\MMC\{58221C66-EA27-11CF-ADCF-00AA00A80033}” does not exist, create them as explained below. Then, create a string value “Restrict_Run” in the right panel.

Now, right-click and modify its value to “1” which can disable console file. However, if you want to enable back the snap-in, delete the subkey “{58221C66-EA27-11CF-ADCF-00AA00A80033}”.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

‘Services’ console file is restricted from loading.

‘Services’ console file is enabled by default.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\], key and create a new key with the name "MMC" under "Microsoft".

Then, create a "{58221C66-EA27-11CF-ADCF-00AA00A80033}" key under "MMC".

Now, right-click in the open area to create a String Value with the name "Restrict_Run" in "{58221C66-EA27-11CF-ADCF-00AA00A80033}" key.

Next, right-click on "Restrict_Run" and click on 'Modify'.

Finally set the value data as '1' and click 'OK'.
