Turn off hard disk solid state mode.

This tweak can stop writing files frequently on NV cache.

Tweak for : Windows Vista
Microsoft has designed a hybrid drive that is currently supported only in Vista. This drive uses a non-volatile (NV) cache to achieve faster boot and resume. A portion of most commonly used data is copied onto the NV cache which in turn minimizes dependency on the hard drive. Eventually, this speeds up performance of your system.

At times if data is frequently written into the NV cache, your system may run out of NV cache memory and cause the hard disk to power down. Frequent power shut-ups can increase wear and tear of NV cache.

To avoid writing files frequently on NV cache, apply this registry setting.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. If the subkey “\NvCache” does not exist, create it as explained below. Then, create a DWORD value “EnableSolidStateMode” in the right panel, and change its data value to “0”.

However, to turn off hard disk solid state, delete the subkey “NvCache”.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

Turn off hard disk solid state mode.reg

The '.reg' file will turn off hard disk solid state mode.

Turn on hard disk solid state mode(Default).reg

The '.reg' file will turn on hard disk solid state mode.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type 'regedit'.

Second, go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\] and create a new key as 'NvCache' under the key 'Windows'.

Next, create a DWORD value as 'EnableSolidStateMode' under the key 'NvCache'.

Now, right click on the DWORD value 'EnableSolidStateMode' and select 'Modify'.

Finally set the value data as '0' to turn off hard disk solid state mode and click 'OK'.
