Enable Reason window on shutdown or restart.

This setting enables you to force the user to enter the reason why the computer should be restarted or switched off before the shut down or restart of Windows will be performed. This information will be saved in a log file and after that Windows will perform the restart or the shut down.

Tweak for : Windows XP
This setting enables you to force the user to enter the reason why the computer should be restarted or switched off before the shut down or restart of Windows will be performed.

This information will be saved in a log file and after that Windows will perform the restart or the shut down. With this setting you will get an overview who has shut down or restarted your computer and why.

For this go to "Start->Run" and enter "regedit" and search the keys listed below. You can create one DWORD value "ShutdownReasonUI", if this value is not existing.

Now, right-click and modify the value to "1" to force the user to tell Windows the restart or shut down reason. However, if you want to get back to the original state, change the value to "0". After a restart or logoff the changes take effect.

NOTE:
If you like to have information about the restart or shut down events, you can go to the Event Viewer. You can go to "Start->Run", type "Control Panel", perform a double-click on "Administrative Tools" and choose the "Event Viewer" to check your events.

Enable 'ReasonUI window' on shutdown.reg

The '.reg file will enable 'ReasonUI window' on shutdown.

Disable 'ReasonUI window' on shutdown.reg

The '.reg file will disable 'ReasonUI window' on shutdown.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

The user is forced to enter a reason to "Shut Down" after the changes have been made in the registry.

The user is not asked to enter a reason to "Shut Down".

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Second, go to the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Reliability\] key, right-click on the "ShutdownReasonUI" DWORD value and click on "Modify".

Finally, enter the value "1" in the text box and click on 'OK'.

End non-responding applications immediately at shutdown.
