Userinit program enables the user to start working on the system.

Windows starts the shell programs at login time to make the system ready and they all come under the name Userinit.

Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows 2000, Windows Vista

Description:

Userinit.exe is an application that is executed when the user has logged on. Its purpose is to set up individual user’s desktop environment, establishing profile settings, font styles, screen colors etc. Upon completion of those tasks, userinit.exe executes the Shell programs (Explorer.exe). If multiple programs are given in the shell key using comma separator, all the programs would be executed by userinit.exe.

If unwanted application makes an entry in Userinit registry value, it will execute in the background at Windows startup without your knowledge. To remove such program, modify the registry setting. The actual path to userinit.exe is read as “C:\Windows\system32\userinit.exe,” where “C:” is the default drive (it should be accompanied with a comma at the end).

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. Now, right-click and modify the string value “Userinit”, in the right panel, to “C:\Windows\system32\userinit.exe,”.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\], in the open area right-click on "Userinit" and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, enter the value (for ex. "C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,") in the text box and click on 'OK'.
